ktvu alison burns is in our washington, d.c. newsroom with the political landscape emerging this morning on capitol hill. >> reporter: pam, earlier this year republicans thought the united states senate and total control of congress was within their reach. but that did not happen. let's take a look here at the latest tally for the u.s. senate democrats have kept the majority with 51 seats. republicans have 45. there are two independence, two seats are too close to call. there were dramatic upsets. democrats captured republicans seats in massachusetts and indiana as elizabeth warren defeated scott brown and democratic representative joe donnelly defeated richard murdock who said conception by rape was god's will. we caught up with patty murphy. she said both parties must move beyond the election toward bipartisan ship. >> the republicans have to start working with us to solve the budget problem and not just keep saying the wealthy don't participate. >> reporter: and even though democrats did pick up a few seats in the house repub
